About the position:As Deputy University Nurse with a specialty in Acute Surgery, at the Trauma and Acute Surgery department, you are responsible for operational development and competence development within your specific area. It is your mission to develop and strengthen the care for the individual patient through quality assurance of procedures and guidelines to ensure evidence-based practices.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- - Putting the patient at the center through quality improvement work based on patient-centered care.
- - Actively working for good communication in interprofessional teams.
- - Documenting procedures and guidelines within the area and implementing them.
- - Updating procedures and guidelines according to existing evidence in patient-centered care.
- - Structuring and presenting new knowledge and technology.
- - Initiating and participating in research conducted in the department.
- - In consultation with colleagues, being responsible for employee introduction and education within the area.
- - Using pedagogical skills to guide, educate, and support colleagues.
- - Collaborating with and being part of a network with other Deputy University Nurses within PMI.
- - Working to create good cooperation in the interprofessional team.
- - Networking regionally and nationally to monitor the specialty.
The position includes clinical work at the Trauma and Acute Surgery department with 20% of the time allocated for care development. You are part of the interprofessional team where you play an important role in patient-centered care. The distribution of time varies throughout the year, and during the summer, you work clinically 100%.
We use individual schedule planning and work every fifth weekend.

The recruitment process:
Appointment as Deputy University Nurse/University Nurse occurs after appropriate decisions from the assessment group for nurses at Karolinska University Hospital.
Applicants complete a merit list according to the competence ladder for nurses, signed by the applicant and authenticated by two individuals, and attach to the application:
- - Proof of registration as a Nurse from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
- - Proof of Supervisory Training (7.5 hp).
- - Proof of Specialist Nurse exam and/or Master's degree.
- - Proof of medical licentiate exam.
- - Proof of medical doctorate.
- - List of publications.
- - Transcript of completed courses. For example, LADOK extract from the Karolinska Institutet.
Applicants fill out an application for placement steps 5-7, signed by the applicant and authenticated by two individuals, and attach to the application:
- Proof of registration as a nurse from the National Board of Health and Welfare- Proof of supervisory training/pedagogy 7.5 hp-course after bachelor's degree- Proof of specialist nurse exam (if required by the employer)- Proof of master's degree- List of publications- Transcript of completed courses. For example, LADOK extract from the Karolinska Institutet.
The application should clearly state the defined clinical nursing area. Examples can include nutrition, pain, wounds or nursing within a specific flow/patient group.
Describe in the application how you will perform the following tasks and how it will benefit the patient:
- - Follow current research and development.
- - Drive the implementation of current knowledge.
- - Initiate and drive competence development, training, and care development activities.
- - Mentor/teach colleagues and/or students.
- - Initiate and participate in nursing research in the area.
